Family STEM Saturdays | 4-8

Spend some quality family time having fun and learning about science… without having to clean up the mess! 

 

Each Family STEM Saturday consists of two half-day sessions -- morning and afternoon -- with hands-on activities, crafts and family fun in different areas of science. Sign up for one program, or enroll in both for a day full of science fun!

 

PROGRAM IS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 4-8. STUDENTS AND PARENTS ENROLL TOGETHER FOR A GREAT DAY! 

 

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2019

 

AM Session: GEOLOGY  (9 am-12 pm)

Real-life fossils and amazing minerals help explore your inner geologist! Explore real fossils, create casts, crack open your own geode and go home with a rock and mineral collection!

 

LUNCH  (12 pm – 1 pm) 

Bring your own lunch and enjoy an outdoor picnic on campus or head down the mountain to grab a quick bite. (There are lots of options on Rte. 44 in Avon and in Bishops Corner, West Hartford -- just a few minutes away.)

 

PM Session: GENETICS (1 pm-4 pm)

Use real genetics to solve a mystery! Pipetting, PCR, gel Electrophoresis crack a "who-done-it" case. DNA lessons and crafts, and get to know each other with some genetics BINGO.

**All students must be accompanied by at least one adult chaperone. Registration is per person, per seat (including adults). Please, no more than two children per adult.
